About the Artist
Abigail Braman is a new contemporary fine artist heavily inspired by the macabre, mid-century modern, and the Funk Art movement of the 1960s. With a BA from East Stroudsburg University in fine art, with a concentration in art history, Abigail is primarily a self-taught oil painter, while also working in graphic design, traditional illustration, and assemblage art. While not wanting to feel creatively constrained, Abigail’s inspirational interests vary from dark art and mythological subject matters, to the vintage realm of the 1950s and ‘60s, to even traditional animation and cartooning.
Abigail began experimenting with found object art in 2010. Her new and ongoing series titled, "The American Dream" was conceived in 2012 and has been coming to fruition over the years, with the hopes of one day having a solo gallery show for these pieces. This series heavily focuses on Americana through the dark guise of satire and retro living, and showcases paintings housed in found objects ranging from old televisions to car parts, and many other vintage household items.
Her artwork has been shown in several galleries around the United States, and abroad, including: Modern Eden Gallery, Arch Enemy Arts, Gallery1988, Nanny Goat Gallery, and WOWxWOW Art. Abigail has also done work for Warner Bros. Television, with a couple of her paintings acting as set design in an episode of ABC’s television series, “Forever,” and also doing freelance mural work for The Weber Group. She also does commission work full-time, and has several returning clients and collectors.
But art isn’t her only passion- she also enjoys playing music (most notably the banjo), watching horror movies, and spending time with her cat/studio helper Claude (RIP). She is a two-time cancer survivor, having survived breast cancer in 2017, and then ovarian cancer in 2022, and also continuously works away on new art pieces and her stop-motion animated horror short film titled, Cadillac Dust.
